- These new ClickChange features were not mentioned in the manual:
- -------------------------------------------------------------
-
- • Preferences (button). This button replaces the "Display icon
- at Startup" checkbox in the main ClickChange window. Clicking
- the Preferences button displays a dialog which contains the
- "Icon at Startup" checkbox.
-
- A new "ClickChange ON" checkbox has been added which will
- turn all ClickChange modules off immediately. Note that any
- existing buttons, scrollbars, and windows will remain in
- whatever style they were before turning ClickChange OFF.
- This checkbox overrides the "Cursor ON" and "Sound ON"
- checkboxes in the Cursor and Sound windows.
-
- You can now instruct ClickChange to use Factory-Standard
- cursors, sounds, buttons, scrollbars, and windows when in
- specific applications. Click the "Add…" button to add an
- application’s name to the list; a "Get File" dialog box appears
- prompting you to select the application you wish to add.
-
- • The SoundControl module has been rewritten, so elements of the
- Sound dialog box shown in Figure 1-7 of the manual have changed
- somewhat-- mostly to provide more space for the large lists of
- events and sounds.
-
- We have added quite a few new sound events, including chiming
- at specific time intervals. Note that the "On the Hour... Toll"
- sound will override the "On the Hour... Chime" sound.
-
- The "Randomly Selected" sound no longer appears in the list of
- sounds. Instead, you may select multiple sounds per event by
- holding down the shift key while clicking on a sound. The
- "At Random" and "In Sequence" radio buttons determine which
- of the multiple sounds will play next for the selected event.
-
- We've added a checkbox to allow sounds to play asynchronously
- for events have an asterisk (*) after their name. This means that
- the sound will play as the Mac continues to work.
-
- Checking the "System Volume" checkbox allows you to set the
- System volume (just like in Apple’s Sound cdev). ClickChange
- sound events will later play at the System volume when this box is
- checked. To play each sound at a specific and unique volume level,
- make sure this box is not checked. Note that the System Beep sound
- will always play at the System volume.
-
- If you assign "No Sound at all" to the ClickChange System Beep, the
- system beep will play at whatever sound you have set using Apple's
- standard "Sound" cdev. This is useful for folks who record and
- playback sounds using Apple's "Sound" cdev.
-
- Note that the random/sequence and asynchronous options are global
- (they don't "stick" to particular events).
-
- • Importing (all but sounds) dialog now has new option to replace
- existing resources of the same name as those being imported
- (otherwise, we tack the new resource's ID# on to the name).
-
- • In all but the sounds module, typing the backspace key deletes
- the current selection. The "Delete" button now brings up a dialog
- of items that can be shift-selected for multiple deletion. The
- new sound module allows shift-selection without the need to
- bring up a seperate dialog box.
-
- • In the Cursor module, CMD-C copies an entire cursor, and CMD-V
- pastes an entire cursor. Use this feature to convert an arrow
- cursor (for instance) into a watch cursor.
-
-
- There are several files on your ClickChange disk which were not
- discussed in the manual. The applications are described in detail below.
-
- • "More Cool Cursors" contains more cursor animations which you
- can import into ClickChange.
-
- • "More Beep Sounds" contains more short sounds which you can
- can import into your System file, or open using Suitcase II or
- Master Juggler.
-
- • "ClickChange Runner" is an application that allows you to open
- ClickChange without using the Control Panel. Just double-click it.
-
- • "The Patcher" is an application that patches programs to work
- properly with ClickChange.
-
- • "TeachText" is an application from Apple® that opens the
- "Read Me" file you are reading now.
-
-
- The "ClickChange Runner" application
- -------------------------------------------------------------
- When copying "ClickChange" to your System disk (put it in your
- System Folder), also copy the "ClickChange Runner" (you can put in
- anywhere on your System disk). From the Finder, double-click the
- Runner to open ClickChange.
-
- The "Runner" lets you open ClickChange...
-
- • without using the Control Panel (which can be slow to open)
- • in tight memory situations (like MultiFinder on 1 meg. machines)
- • by double-clicking one of the ClickChange "object" files (cursor,
- sound, color, button, scrollbar, or window files). Contrary to what
- the manual says on pages 26 and 29, you can double-click these files
- to open them-- if the Runner is on your disk.
-
-
- The "Patcher" application
- -------------------------------------------------------------
- This application is used for two purposes.
-
- • If you are on America Online, AppleLink, CompuServe, or GEnie, we
- periodically upload Patcher files which you may download and use
- to update your copy of ClickChange.
-
- • To patch applications so they work properly with ClickChange.
- An application need only be patched once by the way.
- Currently, the two patches included are for MicroSoft Excel™
- (to change its Plus cursor), and Claris FileMaker™ (to change its
- ibeam, cross, and animated "wait" cursors). Once patched, you may
- use ClickChange to customize the cursors for these applications.
-
-
- INIT conflicts:
- -------------------------------------------------------------
- Note: INITs (Startup documents) load in alphabetical order. By renaming
- the INIT files, you can change the order in which they load.
-
- • Make sure the Suitcase II INIT loads before the ClickChange INIT for
- two reasons: SmartAlarms' Appointment Diary desk accessory will
- hang otherwise; and your startup sound will not play if the sound
- resides in a file which has been opened by Suitcase II.
-
- • Make sure the AfterDark INIT loads after ClickChange or cursors will
- not get hidden when AfterDark puts the screen to sleep. (We usually
- rename it to Dark,After).
-
- • Make sure the SunDesk INIT loads before ClickChange or the two will
- fight over for the right to draw your system cursors. Better yet: use
- ResEdit to remove all 'CURS' and 'crsr' resources from SunDesk's data file
- and don't worry about the INIT load order.
-
- • If when using Apple 8*16 color card, you find that strings in menus,
- buttons and filenames in the Finder randomly fail to draw, you need to
- download a utility called "Bootman" and use it to increase the size of
- the event queue to 40.
